Cavities are very inconvenient and troublesome, especially when you have braces. This is why your orthodontist, Dr. Chris Trockel, strongly encourages you to avoid cavities as much as possible while you align your smile with braces. To help you do so, they has some helpful tips for you.
First, brush your teeth frequently. It’s recommended to brush after each time you eat, which means you should brush after breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You should also brush before bed. As you brush, use a soft-bristled toothbrush that isn’t too worn down.
Second, floss your teeth at least once a day. If you can floss more, great. Do it! Flossing helps remove the cavity-causing food particles and bacteria that hide in the small, hard-to-reach crevices of your smile and braces.
Third, have a healthy and balanced diet. This means you should avoid sugary and acidic foods and drinks and stick to tooth-healthy products, like dairy products, fruits, and vegetables. You should also drink plenty of water to frequently rinse your mouth and stay hydrated.
