Braces can play a very important role in correcting the alignment and position of your teeth. Now that this is complete, Dr. Chris Trockel can remove your braces. However, this is not the end of the realignment process. The final step calls for using a retainer to hold your teeth in position to help hold your teeth in their new position.
A Hawley retainer is often sufficient for maintaining the alignment and position of your upper teeth. This is a removable mouthpiece made from dental acrylic that includes interlocking wires. In some cases, Dr. Chris Trockel might also recommend a fixed retainer. This is more likely if a certain area such as your front lower teeth required significant correction.
This is a firm metal band that Dr. Chris Trockel cements behind each of the teeth in that area. Since it cannot be removed the fixed retainer will require extra attention in your daily oral hygiene routine.
If you find that you are having a hard time cleaning around the fixed retainer, you might want to try using an interdental brush, a water flosser, or a floss threader. These oral hygiene tools can help clean the small contours around the metal band and your teeth.
